As we head into the 2nd full round of the season we have a couple of blockbuster games to start the round.

First off on Thursday Night we have the Blues who are coming off a shock loss to the Tiger last week and the in-form Hawks at the MCG. The Blues started off well last week getting up to a 41 point lead to the young tigers team but then Richmond started a comeback and finished off winning by 13 points. The Blues looked poor in the second half as they defence wasn’t holding up with Mitch McGovern and Nick Haynes but a highlight for the game was Jacob Weitering having a great game down back with 8 intercept marks.

The Hawks on the other hand have already played 2 games with 2 strong wins against reigning minor premiers Sydney and finals contenders Essendon. Hawthorn’s new recruits of Tom Barrass and Josh Battle have shown that they were worth it as Hawthorn’s defence has been stable in the first two weeks. The hawks have had a run and carry game so far which has clearly worked with players such as James Sicily, Karl Amon and Jarman Impey sending it down to the forward line and letting all the smalls such as Nick Watson and Jack Ginnivan crumb it and kick goals.

My Tip: Hawthorn by 40 points

The Friday Night game of the round is between the Bulldogs (also known as Footscray this week) and Collingwood. The Bulldogs just had an unconvincing win against the kangaroos due to injuries to key players such as Marcus Bontempelli, Cody Weightman, Adam Treloar and Liam Jones. Despite the injuries Ed Richards, Bailey Dale and stand in captain Tom Liberatore stood up and got the job done for the bulldogs. Collingwood on the other hand has played 2 games already with 2 contrasting results. In Opening Round they travelled up to Sydney to play GWS only to get smashed by 50 points in the hot weather and copped criticism all through the week. They quickly responded with a massive victory over Port Adelaide at the MCG by 91 points. New recruit Dan Houston played very well against his former side as well as veteran Steele Sidebottom and superstar Nick Daicos.

My Tip: Collingwood by 29 points.
